“Where do you think you’re going?” he demanded, his grip firm and unyielding. I stared up at him, wide-eyed and startled. My heart raced as I tried to think of a way to escape his hold.
Atticus’s expression softened slightly. “Promise me you’ll wait for me,” he said, his voice low and urgent. I could feel the heat radiating off his body as he towered over me. His eyes were dark and intense, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of danger emanating from him.
“I… I can’t,” I stammered, trying to wriggle free from his grasp. Atticus’s grip tightened, and a chill ran down my spine.
“Can’t?” he repeated, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
Suddenly, the castle seemed to grow warmer, as if the air around us was becoming thick and heavy with tension. People began to stop and stare, but I hardly noticed. My eyes were fixed on Atticus, and I couldn’t look away.
As Braxton appeared around the corner, my heart sank. He was always searching for new ways to torment me, and I knew he would use this against me if he had the chance.
With a resigned sigh, I gave in to Atticus’s demands. “Okay, okay, I’ll wait for you,” I muttered.
Atticus’s eyes bore into mine. “You are mine,” he said, his voice low and commanding.
I swallowed hard, feeling a lump rise in my throat. “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
“You belong to me. Say it,” he demanded.
I hesitated, unsure of what to do. But Atticus’s grip on my collar was unyielding, and I knew I had no choice but to comply.
