I Never Knew Cover

Riverside Town, Book 4

Ryan Hayes wasn’t looking for a distraction from the one in five chance of him being the father to his lying, cheating, “not his girlfriend”, pregnant ex-girlfriend’s baby, but that was exactly what Elijah became. That was until the lines got blurred and Elijah became something to him that he never knew was possible: everything.

Elijah Anderson hid the struggles he faces every day to keep his diner afloat behind a smile, but Ryan saw through it and gave Elijah real reasons to smile. Though Elijah tried to fight it—Ryan may have a baby on the way and was also the soon to be brother-in-law to his best friend—Ryan seeing Elijah in his lingerie and showing how receptive he was to roleplay was Elijah’s undoing…he was hooked! He wanted to lose himself in the gorgeous, demisexual, and bi-curious man in ways he never had before.

Ryan saw how hard Elijah worked every day to make ends meet and how his generous behavior was being exploited. Not anymore.

Elijah saw past Ryan’s candid approach to dealing with his family and understood the love behind his words. They’ll see how considerate you are.

Just as Ryan and Elijah settle into their happy lives together, it gets rocked by a heavily pregnant woman wielding a hammer.

Author note: male/male romance, can be read as a standalone. Contains sexual acts between consenting adults, roleplay, sexy lingerie, and two men who never knew what love was until a heavy box was dropped on one of them.

Elijah

“Taylor!” I shouted loudly as I watched the little shit walk towards Cammy and me, his hips swaying, a massive smile on his face as he held a tray of drinks. “What did I tell you! No more drinks for Cammy.”

“These aren’t drinks,” Taylor said patiently after placing the tray on the short table in front of our chairs, “they’re shots.”

Cammy laughed loudly, and I sighed. I failed to tame Taylor like Cammy had asked me to when he invited me out. The guy was a nightmare. When I pulled up to Taylor’s house to pick him and Cammy up, I knew I was in for a tough night. The two of them came bouncing out of the front door, wearing matching blue boy shorts and cut-off T-shirts with pride colors painted across their exposed abdomens. Cammy’s T-shirt was yellow, and Taylor had used a marker pen to write, ‘Fuck off, I’m engaged’ on the front. His pink T-shirt had ‘Daddy’s good boy’ written on it.

“What I’m thinking…” Cammy spoke slowly, and I knew he was trying to hide his intoxicated state from me, “…if I don’t drink them,” he pointed to the shots—there were at least ten of them, “then Taylor will. So, I should probably drink half of them just to help him out.”

Taylor laughed as he sat down heavily in the chair beside me. He leaned over me to talk to Cammy and said, “You’re so good at math, Cammy. It’s like you’re gonna be a math teacher one day.”

They laughed at the unfunny joke, and I slouched back in my chair in defeat as they each gulped down a shot. Taylor was a brat, but I could tell he positively affected Cammy. The poor guy had been a timid little sweet pea when he entered Duncan’s place. I’d met him before that at Law’s store, but that day had been our first interaction outside of his work, and I couldn’t believe how adorable he was. From the recounts I’d heard from Duncan and Law, Taylor had made it his mission to show Cammy how to behave like a nineteen-year-old. Neither man had any complaints about Taylor and Cammy’s antics. They hadn’t gone into it, but I got the gist that Cammy’s mom had messed with his head—from what Ryan had told me about what his mom had done when she’d found him wearing girls’ underwear, I knew what she’d done to Cammy, was probably just as bad. Taylor was set on undoing what she’d done to Cammy.

Putting two empty shot glasses to his eyes, Taylor used them to scan the club’s top floor. “I could use these to get a close-up of the guys in those cages. They’re there to be looked at; Daddy Law can’t tell me off for that.”

Something else I thought was wonderful about Cammy and Taylor’s friendship was that Taylor called Cammy’s dad ‘Daddy,’ and Cammy never battered an eyelash. When Duncan had invited me to the fishing trip, he’d explained the dynamics of Law and Taylor’s relationship—Law had suggested to Duncan that I know so I wouldn’t be surprised by anything I heard on the trip.

Hey…does that look like Ryan to you?”

Taylor’s question pulled me out of my thoughts, and I saw him hand Cammy one of the shot glasses to look through. I didn’t have time to roll my eyes at the idiocy of Cammy trying to look for his brother through a shot glass because I was scanning the mass of people for him.

When I didn’t immediately spot him, I wanted to demand Taylor point him out to me but didn’t want to tip them off to anything—drunk as they were, they’d still pick up on my panic.

“I can’t see him,” Cammy said, a shot glass over his eye and the other closed.

“The guy wearing the black lingerie and tight black jeans, standing near that cage.” Taylor pointed to the right of us, and my insides froze as I scanned the crowd congregated near one of the cage dancers.

“Wait…” Cammy said slowly, “…that does look like him. And the guy dancing next to him looks like Zach, Ryan’s friend.”

Sighing deeply, all I could do was stare. Ryan was wearing the black babydoll I’d been desperate for him to wear but hadn’t wanted to push him after he’d told me what his mom had done when she’d found him wearing girl’s panties. He looked fucking breathtaking.
