Queens Crescent, Book 4

London is in the grip of a heatwave, but something else is causing Nihal Varma’s temperature to skyrocket.

The CEO of a PR agency, he’s used to dealing with glamourous and beautiful people. He’s woken up with a lot of them too.

Yet when Carl Carrington, MP and candidate for leader of the opposition, walks into his office, Nihal finds himself a bag of nerves. And that never happens. He soon discovers that not only is Carl stunning to look at, he radiates decency. In Nihal’s world, that’s a very rare commodity.

When Carl insists on working with Nihal only, he’s entranced. Could this MP be interested in a man whose past is…chequered, to say the least? Nihal ‘I don’t do relationships’ Varma really hopes so. Even if getting involved with a client, especially such a high-profile one, is not just crazy. It’s insane.

But for once Nihal is out of control and that makes a man do very strange things…

EXclusive Excerpt:

The clock struck four. Carl had said he would be over for around six. Nihal was restless.

You’re acting like a lovestruck teenager, for fuck’s sake.

As he watched the comings and goings below, his eyes nearly popped out of his head. There was Carl, walking up the cobbled street. “What the fuck?”

At breakneck speed, Nihal dashed into the drawing room. He grabbed the chocolate milkshake carton he’d been drinking from and dragged off his Lion King T-shirt. He had an image to protect.

His heart racing, he made it up to his bedroom and chose a black Versace T-shirt from the wardrobe. The doorbell rang as he put it on. He checked his reflection in the mirror. Hopefully his tight denim shorts would distract from the fact that he hadn’t styled his hair.

After the almost-kiss in Liverpool, Nihal knew he hadn’t been imagining the chemistry between him and Carl. He didn’t want to drive him away with bad sartorial choices and children’s drinks.

The bell rang again. He threw the empty carton into the bin.

Stay calm, Varma.

Nihal gathered himself together and walked down the stairs. He would not be flushed like some Jane Austen heroine when he answered the door.

As he opened it, a worried look on Carl’s face dissolved into a smile that hit Nihal right in the chest.

“You’re early,” Nihal said.

“I know. My last meeting cancelled so here I am. You took your time answering.”

“Oh, I had my headphones on. Come in.”

He ushered Carl in. The smell of his cologne filled Nihal’s nostrils, but there was something else there. A musky, manly smell that he wanted to breathe right in.

“Go on upstairs,” Nihal said.

Carl frowned. “Upstairs?”

“To the drawing room,” Nihal said with a smirk. “Have no fear, your reputation is safe with me.”

Nihal followed Carl up the stairs. He allowed himself to steal a look. Carl had a solid butt that the snug suit trousers he was wearing perfectly showed off. Nihal would give a lot to be able to dive in there.

As he walked into the drawing room, Carl whistled. “Public relations pays, then.”

Nihal shrugged. “I’ve worked hard for this. Take a seat.”

Carl opted for the armchair. He seemed nervous. “You okay?”

Carl ran a hand across his face. “Yeah, it’s been a long day. I stayed up working on the speech after I got home last night.”

Nihal sank down onto the sofa. “I’ve been having a go at it too. I reckon between us we’ll have it sorted in no time.”

They set about sharing what they had written. Carl had done a decent enough job at picking out what he wanted to focus on. Unfortunately, it didn’t flow all that well. Armed with his trusty highlighter pen, Nihal cut things and moved blocks around.

After an hour, he was hammering away furiously on the laptop. He could tell Carl was watching him intently.

“You’re putting me off,” Nihal said.

“Sorry,” Carl replied. “I’ve never seen anyone type that fast before.”

Nihal waggled his fingers. “These babies are magic.”

Raising an eyebrow, Carl glanced away.

About the Author:

I have written for as long as I could write. In fact, before, when I would dictate to my auntie. I love to read, and I love to create worlds and characters.

I live in the English countryside. When I’m not writing, I like to get out there and think through the next scenario I’m going to throw my characters into.

Inspiration can be found anywhere, on a train, in a restaurant or in an office. I am always in search of the next character to find love in one of my stories. In a world of apps and online dating, it is important to remember love can be found when you least expect it.
