Life After Love
By JJ Harper

Calston Cove, Book 1
All he wanted was a new life, not a new love.
Merrick
Merrick has the perfect life: a husband, a baby, and a great future ahead of him. Until all that is ripped away, and he’s left alone with his daughter. After two years, he knows it’s time to move on. To find a new life for him and Willow. It comes in the shape of a derelict mill house nestled in the hills above a Devon seaside town.
Drew
When Drew loses the chance to buy and restore the house he’s loved all his life, the last thing he wants to do is renovate it for the mysterious new resident. But something about Merrick Green intrigues him, and he feels compelled to lift the heaviness surrounding him. The fact that Merrick’s daughter seems to have taken an instant infatuation with Drew makes it easier.
As the two men become friends, Merrick battles with his attraction to Drew. How can he be interested in the ruggedly handsome when he’s still in love with Josh?
Letting go of the past is hard, but with Drew by his side, he finds a way forward.
Life After Love is a sweet small-town, opposites-attract, hurt/comfort romance with low angst and a sweet little girl that everyone falls in love with.
The book deals with the loss of a loved one.

Drew drapes his arm over my shoulder and kisses my temple. He’s very touchy-feely, something Josh wasn’t. He was loving and affectionate, but we didn’t share kisses in public. Maybe Drew knows how safe we are here. I haven’t been aware of any homophobic vibes in the town.
We walk quietly but comfortably. It doesn’t feel like a new relationship, though. It’s more relaxed, like we already know each other intimately. Which we don’t, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Has he? Does he want to take it further tonight? Do I? Is it too soon?
“Seriously? Are you crazy? Listen to yourself, Merrick. Of course you want to, and so does he.”
You think now’s the time to show up? Josh, you can’t be here right now.
“Fine, I’ll leave you alone tonight.”
“Are you okay?” Drew asks, bringing me back to him.
“Yeah, sorry. I had something going round in my head.”
We’re back at the cottage. Drew hesitates. Is he unsure of what’s going to happen next? “Would you like to come in? It’s still early.”
The tension in his shoulders vanishes as he lets out a breath. “Yeah, I’d like to.”
Once we get inside, I leave Drew to entertain himself while I get Willow clean and into her pyjamas. She’s so tired she doesn’t protest and is soon fast asleep in her bed.
“She’s sleeping already,” I say when I get back into the living room. Drew has settled on the sofa, leafing through a magazine.
“Homes and Gardens? Are you looking for inspiration?”
“Hey, don’t mock. It has some great ideas.” I take the magazine from him and put it down on the table. “Didn’t you get a drink?”
“No, not yet. I’m not going to help myself to the contents of your fridge.”
I step closer to him, the couple of beers I’ve had giving me the courage I wouldn’t usually have, and straddle his thighs. I don’t sit down but lean over him, my hands on the back of the sofa on either side of his head. “It didn’t stop you this morning.”
My mouth is so close to his lips his breath drifts over mine. I press my lips to his and kiss him, a deep, full-on, lick-inside-his-mouth kind of kiss. We both groan when Drew grips my hips and pulls me down onto his lap. He takes control of the kiss and of me. His large, calloused hands find their way under my shirt and up my back. When he scrapes his nails down the length of my spine, I arch my back towards him. I moan into his mouth. He greedily swallows my whimpers.
When he reaches around to the button and zip of my shorts, he stops kissing me, leaving me bereft, desperate for more. “It’s my turn to taste you.”
“Yes. But not here. In my room. I want you back in my bed. Although technically, I suppose it’s your bed.”
“I don’t think we need to discuss ownership right now, babe,” Drew says, his breath hot against my ear.
I shuffle back from my position on his thighs and stand up, then hold out my hand and pull him to his feet. He can have control. I had my wicked way with him last night. Now I want him to be in charge of me. God, just the thought of him demanding and commanding me makes my dick ache.
Drew takes my hand and struts across the room to the bedroom. “Get on the bed.”

Just in case you don’t know me. I’m a simple soul that puts all my hopelessly romantic thoughts down on my computer. I’m usually in the living room—typing away—with my wayward Great Dane, Siddiqi, next to me on the sofa.
I’m a hopeless romantic, always falling in love with my men, determined to make sure they get the happy-ever-after they deserve, even if they do have to work hard for it.
I live in a tiny village in Lincolnshire, UK, with my husband and dog, who are forever patient with me when I forget the time, and the dinner!
