Jude cuddled closer to Daruss, tightening his hold. Daruss always slept on either his back or his side. And he always held Jude the whole night. Jude hadn’t felt so safe and protected before.
He was in love, and he suspected Daruss knew it. Both created more problems than Jude was prepared to deal with. He didn’t know how to get out of the mess he was in as it was. Being in love complicated everything.
At the moment he had three problems. One was his stay with the Dragon Skulls had always been temporary. He’d have to leave Daruss when Mitch came to get him.
His second and most immediate problem was the fact he was Mitch Burke’s brother. Mitch had done a good job of hiding Jude, considering the Dragon Skulls were enemies of the Chained Devils. Everyone who knew anything about the MC gangs around these parts knew it. But Mitch was still associated with the Chained Devils. He hadn’t done enough yet to get out from under their shadow. Or if he had, Jude hadn’t heard about it.
Daruss would lose his shit all over Jude when he found out who Jude was.
The third problem was one he needed help with. Months had gone by with no word from Mitch. It had been too long. Jude worried Terrell had gotten the better of Mitch somehow. He needed to find his brother. Daruss would be able to help. He had the resources, but Jude didn’t think he would. He considered Mitch an enemy. He’d mark Jude as one too. Worse, he’d view him as a traitor once he found out Jude’s secret, but what choice did Jude have? He didn’t see any other way.
He knew Daruss well enough to know there wasn’t an excuse he’d accept. Daruss had an edge hard enough to cut anyone who crossed him.
Jude sent a silent prayer to whatever god cared that Daruss wouldn’t be a prick when Jude told him the truth. No doubt, the gods laughed their asses off because even they knew how ridiculous the request was. Daruss wouldn’t give Jude a chance to explain himself very easily. If he could find the right thing to say, then maybe Daruss would help him.
Jude rolled away from Daruss. The lack of contact chilled him. Daruss was always like a furnace. Jude pulled the covers up to his chin and stared at the ceiling, trying to talk himself out of doing the hard thing but he didn’t have anyone else who would help him.
He would save himself if he stayed quiet. Not that he thought Daruss would hurt him. At least he wouldn’t get violent. Daruss would smash his heart into a million pieces, call him a liar and a traitor, and try to lock him up somewhere until he figured out what to do with him. But maybe somewhere in the mess of all that Daruss would hear Jude’s words instead of who his brother was.
“Get back here, boy.” Daruss’s voice was rough and sleepy. Despite that there was still affection in his tone.
Jude smiled. And moved into Daruss’s side again.
Daruss ran his hand along Jude’s back to his ass. “Go back to sleep.”
“I can’t.” Jude didn’t want to say why. It would mark the start of his confession.
