“Mortens, Macicens!” A raspy voice shouted in my ear. I turned quickly as the fangs of an Áucúitu dug into my arm. Red-hot pain exploded over my body. My head spun and stars erupted behind my eyes.
“Eli!” Austin shouted from several yards away. He was surrounded by a pack of Malloupus that circled him, ears erect, growling at him and ready to cuddle him until they sucked out his soul. “Eli!” His hand reached for mine before I saw him disappear into the pack of golden-furred monsters.
“Kangy!” I jumped into action, leaping up into the air and spinning rapidly, sending the wraith flying off my arm.
