Epically beautiful!!

I know this story would grab my heart and it totally did! It shattered it and put it back together! Kyleen has a way with words and this journey through grief, life, love, and forgiveness; is so epically beautiful, both River, Easton (and Paul) will be in my heart forever!

This story follows a life-altering event for both River and Easton, through the outcomes are very different. 5 years later Easton is still grieving, living in a very grey world, and going through the motions, rather than living. River, on the other hand, is going through the motions of work and life but longs to find an epic love that would add passion to his life. A bit of help from a friend and some unfortunate timing and River and Easton meet and embark on a challenging journey of grief, healing, self-discovery and a new life filled with color!

This book is a fantastic example of what the human heart is capable of and just a beautiful journey to finding new love in an unusual place. I loved River and Easton and hope we will be seeing more of them soon!!

Author Spotlight with Kyleen

New BTT Design-2

Books: What’s your favorite book, a book that’s greatly impacted you or your first LGBTQ read? My very first MM book that I read was Linemates by Van Barrett. It was such a hot book that I was instantly hooked on the genre and I am SO glad for it!

Tattoos: Do you have any tattoos? If yes where and what? If you have a lot, which is your favorite one? YES! I am a tattoo addict lol. I have 8 tattoos total- 2 pawprints (one is from my dog and the other is a random one I got at 18 lol), a butterfly (my first tattoo I got when I was 18), the Dane Cook Super-Finger symbol (because my boyfriend I had when I was young hated Dane Cook and thought women shouldn’t have tattoos, so the day we broke up I got it done), 2 Doctor Who tattoos; “Bad Wolf” and my maiden name in Circular Galifreyan, a cross (I’m not religious but I used to be lol), and finally my very favorite tattoo I have is a half-sleeve galaxy tattoo with planets, stars, and a supernova (as seen in pic). I’m currently planning a new tattoo in the next week or so, I want to get a watercolor typewriter with rainbow keys and a piece of paper coming out that says “Light up your wildest dreams”.

Tea: Tea, coffee, soda, alcohol? What’s your drink? Coffee! With French vanilla creamer preferably.

Tell us a little about yourself.  I’m a 30 year old wife, dog mom, and author. I have a degree in animal science and in a past life I was a veterinary technician with plans to become a veterinarian. I dreamed of being an author since I was a kid and basically at this point I can’t believe my life is even real lol.

What would people be most surprised to know about you? Well, when I meet people in person they’re usually most surprised to learn that I’m a filthy, filthy romance author 😉 lol. But you guys might be most surprised to learn that I have a degree in animal science and as part of that degree I had to impregnate a cow and a pig, and also slaughtered a chicken myself, prepared it, cooked it, and ate it. It was the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten lol.

How do you relax? Reading mainly and snuggling with my dog.8.png

Do you have a favorite quote (either from your own books or ones you’ve read or person past or present)? My favorite quote from my own books is actually from Change of Heart- “Does his heart still miss me without knowing why”. It gave me chills when I wrote it and it still does when I think about it lol.

How long have you been writing and what made you fall in love with writing? Literally my entire life. From an extremely young age, I loved to daydream and it didn’t take long for me to figure out daydreaming was more fun if I wrote them down. In middle school and high school, I used to spend study hall time writing Tolkien-esque fantasy stories and then in my 20s I fell in love with romance.

What’s your favorite part of writing?  The moment when a new story idea pops into my head and there’s this huge rush of excitement about the possibilities of it.

Why did you choose to write LGBTQ+ romance? Why not another genre?  I absolutely fell in love with the diversity in the genre. When I was reading and writing MF romance I noticed a distinct lack of “imperfect” characters and it’s become an absolute passion of mine to explore characters with physical imperfections such as large scars, or characters struggling with things like bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety/OCD, and I’m looking forward to finding new things to explore as well. Also, as a pansexual, polyamorous woman in a hetero-passing, monogamous marriage writing MMM stories has been a wonderful outlet for me to explore the feelings I didn’t understand in myself for so long.

What sort of reception do you get when you told your family and friends about the genre and stories you write? (I ask this question to help show stories of hope and support and that, fellow people in the LGBTQ community can relate to)
My family and friends were extremely supportive. My family was mostly focused on their surprise about the fact that I was making a living from my writing than about the subject I write about lol. And many of my friends read and enjoy my books. I’ve been extremely lucky about how everyone I love has reacted.

What’s your favorite part about the LGBTQ+ communities? The love and support. It’s so incredible to see this community rally around people in their time of hurt and need, it’s truly a beautiful thing.

Where did your inspiration come from for Change of Heart? The idea for Change of Heart came from the most unlikely of places, an episode of Law and Order: SVU. I was in the middle of writing another book when I saw an episode of SVU that involved a heart transplant. It started me thinking about what that would be like to know that while your loved one was gone, their organs were still out in the world, part of a complete stranger. The idea grew from there into what it would be like to actually meet the person and what would happen if you found yourself falling in love with them.

Describe a scene in your Change of Heart that has made you laugh or cry or was challenging to write? I cried pretty much every time Easton cried (which is A LOT for the record lol). This story absolutely poured from my heart in a way I couldn’t have imagined, it was probably the easiest thing I’ve ever written even though I cried through most of it lol

What does your writing process look like?  In a word, chaotic. I tend to have bits and pieces of dialogue or incomplete scenes come to me when I’m first imagining a story, so I’ll have a messy document full of little bits of things that I want to shape the story around, and then I sort of figure out the actual story from there.

When/where is your favorite time/place to write? My writing schedule is to write from 9am-4pm Monday-Friday and I write at my kitchen table because I haven’t gotten around to setting up an office yet lol.

How do you go about naming your characters?  Any time I see an article with a title like “you won’t believe these baby names” or “names no one else in the class will have”, I read through and add them to a list I keep. When I need to name new characters I go to the sheet and look through it until one jumps out at me as what will fit the character.

Will we be seeing these characters again any time soon? I am planning to write a spin-off story for Brandon and Fox to get their HEA so this won’t be the last you see of River and Easton.

Also (I have to ask) who was your inspiration for Royal and who would play Royal, Nash, and Zade in their movie? I wish I had an answer for this but I never do when I get this question lol. I feel like I’d rather have unknown actors play them probably lol.

What genre/s do you enjoy reading in your free time?  My main genre is MM (of course), I also love sci-fi and horror (both MM and just regular)

New BTT Design-4.png

What was the last book you read?  I am currently reading Anticipating Rejection by Silvia Violet, it’s super good!

What hobbies do you have outside of writing? Is watching too much reality TV a hobbie? lol

What’s your spirit animal and/or Hogwarts house? My spirit animal is a dog and my Hogwarts house is Slytherin.

Thanks so much Kyleen for your time!

We love learning what makes a great author tick!!

CoH teaser 1

Excerpt

The cool night air wraps around me, the din of the bar fading as soon as the door closes behind me, leaving only the scattered sound of cars passing and the occasional drunken laugh escaping into the night. An overwhelming emotional exhaustion hits me, and the task of walking the half-block to my car seems insurmountable. I lean against the rough brick outside of the bar and tilt my head back, looking up at the expansive night sky. The light illuminating the bar entrance flickers, and I close my eyes as an inescapable feeling of loneliness hits me square in the chest and nearly brings me to my knees. I drag in a harsh breath, putting a hand over my heart, and wonder for the millionth time about my heart donor. Did he love someone so much he could hardly breathe? Is there someone out there still who loved him the same?

I drag my fingers to the center of my chest, tracing the raised edges of my scar through the soft fabric of my shirt. I can feel the beat, steady and even against my palm, and I think about the man who saved my life. I don’t know a damn thing about him, but that doesn’t stop me from wondering who he was, what kind of a life he lived, who loved him but selflessly made the sacrifice to save the life of a complete stranger?

Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
