How to Elude a Vampire
(VRC: Vampire Related Crimes, Book 2)
by Alice Winters

Release Date: April 16, 2020

When the vampire stalking me sent me a letter, I was prepared for my new life with the man I love to get thrown into chaos. But as the days stretch on and nothing happens, I become determined not to allow that monster to rule my life, and decide that Marcus and I will move on. We can’t always allow the past to haunt us. If that includes pestering Marcus and harassing my fellow detectives, they’d better learn to love it, because I’m not going anywhere even if they like to remind me I’m the only human working in a department filled with vampires. But Marcus loves me for who I am, even if he’s not crazy about the cute pet names I call him like McBitey. Being with him is more than I could have dreamed, and even with the trials thrown in our way, he never fails to make me smile.

When Finn joined the VRC, I never expected how everything would change. Now that he’s the brightest part of my days, I’m unsure of how I existed without him. Before Finn and I can settle into our new life together, we’re called in as lead detectives when a body is found in the river, and the case soon hits closer to home than we anticipated. I want to be by Finn’s side to keep him safe, but at the same time, Finn’s fighting for the freedom he’s always wanted after being forced to live a life of fear. What I do know is that my future is with Finn, no matter what happens.

How to Elude a Vampire is the second in the VRC series and contains a display of manly prowess that doesn’t go as desired, reluctant bonding with a new pet, interfering with a snarky Russian’s love life, misuse of office supplies, a vampire with a killer fashion sense but very little game, a total lack of ancient kung fu powers, a feisty human who almost always gets his way and the possessive vampire who adores him.

I just love Finn!

Alice has a way of creating dynamic yet complex characters, silly yet serious, funny yet pensive. I love Finn and all his complexities! He faces a lot in this book and I like the way Alice approached this and found the perfect balance between her wit and humor and the seriousness of panic attacks and constant stalking.

I love the evolution of Finn and Marcus’ relationship and the sweet softening of Marcus’ gruff exterior, into a sweet, love-drunk sap, no one can really ‘fear’ anymore, thanks to Hela (and Finn).

While book one ended on a cliffhanger this book picks up 3 months later and life has returned to normal…I expected a more gripping and climatic opener given how to book one ended but this book is not without its twists. The reveal of the big bad, was both, O.M.G. and noooooooo and damn it! I know that seems opposite but once I knew who it was it was a little disappointing for reasons I can’t say as it would be a spoiler lol.

I loved the explanation of where and how vampires were made and liked that this was original and unique! Great creative mind at work.

If you love Alice’s wit and humor with a little more seriousness then this series is for you! I have loved all Alice’s works, so might be a little bias but this was another great one. She’s truly one of my fav authors!!

How to Vex a Vampire
(VRC: Vampire Related Crimes Book 1)
by Alice Winters

Release Date: February 18, 2020

Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part; what’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner, an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it, and Marcus—or as I like to call him, Fangy McFangface—would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not. But what he doesn’t know is that I didn’t join the unit because I was tired of being a homicide detective, I joined because there is someone after me. They’ve already taken enough from me and I’m afraid they’re going to take all of me if I don’t find someone to help. That’s all Marcus was supposed to be, but now, he’s so much more and I can’t imagine my life without him.

The moment the pesky human walked through that door, I knew I had to get rid of him. He’s charming and almost everyone else instantly loves him, but he doesn’t understand how risky it is being part of this unit as a human. But as I get to know the stubborn man, I learn that perhaps he’s not as naive as I once thought. And maybe he’s what I needed to realize there is more to life than just work and my dog. A group arises who is threatening to disrupt the alliance between the humans and the vampires, but Finn is the one who shows me how strong that alliance can be and reminds me why it’s worth protecting. When threats hit closer to home, I realize I would do anything for Finn because he’s brought so much joy to my life—and because he’s mine.

This 105k word book contains: A creative use for undergarments, unintentional splits, a wolfhound who just wants to be a part of things, a vertically challenged human who still manages to wrap every vampire he meets around his little finger, the best date ever, possessiveness, really awkward dancing, some workplace revenge, and just a bite or two. Or three.

Alice knows how to draw you in and weave a tale that keeps you enthralled, on edge AND laughing all in the same sentence!

I loved this one from Alice! While not as humorous as her last, this one had so much depth and character! A world where Vampires live in peace (sort of) with humans; this story is a complex and thrilling web of crime-solving, humor, a wish for revenge and safety and an unexpected connection that challenges the foundations of both main characters.

I loved Finn and his quick wit, humor and comedy that he often uses to mask so much more! Marcus was the perfect gruff and grumpy Vampire you’d expect but is constantly surprised and challenged by the enigma that is Finn! Their unique partnership is full of wit and humor as well as a somewhat slow-burning connection, not from Finn’s lack of trying though. When Marcus finally gives in, their connection explodes!

I really liked this story and the careful balance between Finn’s purpose and past and the current case and unrest the characters face. I was on edge waiting for Finn’s past to catch up with him but in true Alice style, she leaves us with a chilling teaser ready for book 2. I need it NOW!!

I loved the colorful collection of unique characters that make us this little family and VRC team. I look forward to learning more about the intriguing Karsyn and all his blushing and the rest of the team as they face the next case and hopefully help Finn faced his past and fears once and for all.

I Loved it! Highly recommended new series!!

The Hitman’s Guide to Making Friends and Finding Love
By Alice Winters

Release Date: July 30, 2019

What happens when a snarky hitman and a by-the-book PI cross paths?

Being a hitman has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go.

Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better. Why else would he be teaming up with me to bring down Hardek, one of the city’s most ruthless criminals?

Even though the cops are telling me that the hitman is a notorious contract killer, I can’t help but admit that I’m drawn to him. He’s funny, charismatic, and attractive. There’s no way this ridiculous man can be the person the cops are after.

But when Leland ends up at my doorstep injured, I’m faced with a tough choice. It’s my duty to hand him over to law enforcement, but my heart has other plans. I want to keep him. To protect him. To be with him.

Though one question remains: why in the world does the man have so many d*mn guns?

Contains: shenanigans on a swing that you would NOT find at a playground, a car chase that sadly doesn’t have flips or explosions, a horsey ride sans horse, cuddles, an exuberant mutt, a suspicious chief of police, and lots and lots of laughs.
