Note: May contain spoilers for Books 1 & 2 As soon as she walked away, Raiden grabbed me by the hand and led me away as quickly as he could without causing concern. We stopped long enough to say goodnight to the king who pursed his lips, trying to hold back a smile, while Raiden briskly thanked him for everything. I was grateful that the sun had gone down, and the dim lighting cast by the torches concealed me slightly. I just stood there, wordless, my face on fire, as the heat that had been teasing and dancing between us now bloomed into a fiery blaze. We hurried as nonchalantly as possible, up the steps and into the semi-privacy of the castle. My room was closer, but his offered greater separation from everything else. We wound our way through the castle, trying to be polite to the servants that we passed by, but it seemed nothing would slow Raiden now. It would have been hilarious, if I wasn’t just as caught up as he was. Our feet hit the steps that led to the royal suites. It seemed with each step we took, five more added to the top. So close, and yet so far. “How many steps are there?” I asked, half-joking, and half-despairing the torture. “Too damn many.” Raiden bit out. We made it to the top at last, it felt as if we had been climbing those stairs for an hour. As soon as we were on level ground, Raiden turned and pushed me back against the wall. He crashed into me, searing me with a kiss. The hunger and desire that had been building all day, finally having a release. How many times had I felt his wanting, his needing, and now the sweet bliss of it all was intoxicating.
