Danylo Peters has issues, lots of them. He’s not on Piedras Island by accident, he’s not a nice guy, and Peters isn’t his real name. A new life in a new town seemed like the right decision for Soren Jorgenson, especially after a difficult case left him recovering from a gunshot wound and lonely as he’d ever been. Finding Dany living on Piedras brings back all the feelings he’d tried to lock away. He’s angry and bitter and Dany is not going to continue to get away with his old tricks. Too bad Dany is just as compelling as he ever was.
The two men find themselves on opposite sides of Soren’s first case on Piedras, but neither is able to deny the attraction between them. They keep finding themselves in compromising situations; if they’re found out there will be Real Trouble.
Real Trouble is set in the Veiled Intentions world, while familiar characters appear Real Trouble can be read as a standalone. Real Trouble is a dual POV following Soren Jorgenson and Danylo Peters as they fight their way to their HEA and is the first in the new West Coast Forensics series. These characters originally appeared in the Shielded Hearts series (formally Accidental Roots).

“Soren set the go-cup Dany had practically thrown at him on his desk. The coffee was almost gone, and, he mused, he should count himself lucky he’d been able to drink it on his drive in and not wear it.
Maybe he shouldn’t have repeated that they needed to talk. Everyone on the planet knew those were grim words, even a non-relationship-savvy guy like Soren. He and Dany did need to talk, though. What the hell was happening? Soren felt like he was at sea on a rickety little boat when it came to Dany Petyr. Talking might at least alert him to how close to the shoals he was.
Ever since Dany had crashed into his life, Soren had felt both off balance and afraid to let go—because, for the first time in his life, he felt truly alive. Dany was electric, a bolt of lightning and risky or not, Soren was going to hold on to him as tightly as he could.
Almost three years ago, when Dany had disappeared, Soren had been in the hospital. When he’d finally been discharged, he’d just let Dany stay gone. He hadn’t tried to find him—he’d only done a cursory search on the internet, and when nothing came up, he’d let it go, resigned to existing without Dany in his life.
But maybe, just maybe, Dany needed Soren to prove he thought Dany was worth the chase, worth the effort. Maybe Dany needed proof that he meant enough to Soren that Soren would jeopardize his career if that’s what it came down to. Because, Soren realized in a flash, he would. He could change jobs, he’d start over. He wanted to prove to Dany he was valued, loved, worth everything.
He shook his head at his past self, sort of wanting to kick his own ass. He’d been the one who’d been afraid to pull his head out of the sand and live his own life. Dany had never lied to him about who he was. He’d run, yes, but it was Soren who’d let him go.”
