I want to hate Luca with everything I have. An outsider like him should have no business telling my family how to run our business. But instead of the stuffy, obnoxious know-it-all I expect to show up, Luca has the audacity to be charming, handsome, hilarious, and ridiculously perfect, making it impossible to hate him. Ugh, he’s such a jerk.
If I can’t hate him, I guess that means I have to love him for being the living embodiment of my dream boyfriend. The man even bakes like a master pastry chef! Who could resist a baking god? Certainly not me. Honestly, his only flaw is not being a permanent resident of Wintervale. But I can be very persuasive when it comes to getting what I want, so why should I let that pesky little detail stop us from being together?
Love at Fourth Sight is the third book in the Suite Dreams series and part of the Sunnyside universe. This novel features a small-town, age gap, instalove, opposites attract romance. Chapter 4: Luca Revello
Albie fumed at me. “Don’t be so arrogant. You’re not irresistible. Far from it, actually.”
“I can’t say the same about you.”
His jaw dropped in comical shock. “What are you talking about?”
“Every second I spend with you makes me wish for a thousand more.” It wasn’t just a cheesy pickup line; it was also true.
He huffed in annoyance. “Do people fall for that?”
“I wouldn’t know. You’re the only person I’ve ever said that to before.” I shrugged because I had my suspicions that he wouldn’t believe me.
He snorted in disbelief. “Yeah, right. I’m sure you have hookups in every city across the country to entertain yourself with while you’re on the road. I bet you have an entire book of smooth pickup lines to get men into bed with you.”
“While I appreciate the compliment that you think I’m that irresistible, you couldn’t be further from the truth.”
“Bullshit.” He scoffed as he gave me an indignant look. “A man as charming as you would never have an empty bed.”
I propped my elbow on the table as I rested my chin on the palm of my hand. “So, you think I’m charming?”
His flush reached to the tips of his ears. “No, you’re not charming at all. Not even a little. Nope.”
“Then why are you blushing so hard at the thought of being in my bed?” I gave him my best roguish grin, earning me the cutest splutters.
“You’re so full of yourself.” He self-consciously touched the back of his hands to his cheeks, to test if they were as flushed as they seemed. “Just because you’re good-looking doesn’t mean everyone wants you. You’re not that special.”
“I don’t want everyone to want me.” Pinning him under my gaze, I reveled in the small squeak that escaped from him. “Only you.”
That earned me another eye roll. “Do you think saying that kind of thing will make me throw myself at you?”
“No, but it’ll annoy you, which is still entertaining for me.” His indignant reaction reminded me of a grumpy baby bird trying to fluff itself up bigger than it was to come off intimidating. “Instead of Albie, maybe I should start calling you ‘birdie,’ since I’m always ruffling your feathers.”
“No, I forbid you to call me that!”
Riling him up was too entertaining. “Sorry, but that makes it more fun, birdie.”
He crossed his arms over his chest with a pout. “That’s not how this works.”
“But it’s so perfect for you.” I took out my phone and showed him a picture of a tiny brown-and-white bird that had a grumpy expression as it flapped its wings. “This is what I see when you fuss at me.”
He scowled at my screen. “You suck.”
“Only if you’re lucky.” I pulled up another image to show him of a small, rotund, gray-and-yellow bird scowling. “You don’t see the resemblance?”
He glared at me. “Oh, you think you’re soooo funny.”
“It’s not about being funny. It has everything to do with it being a perfect nickname for you when you get your feathers ruffled so easily.”
