Hannibal never ceased to amaze me. Just when I thought I had the little guy all figured out, he’d go and change the rules, making me just love him more and more. But as I watched Romeo holding Hannibal’s hand as the two exchanged lively speculation about what the Freak Show tent contained, I realized I wanted this permanence more than anything in the world. I wanted our small family, and I’d even come to like the guardians. Jacob smiled a lot and Lyra…well, that woman was—simply put—magnificent in too many ways to count.
