Real Risk is the third in the West Coast Forensics series and can be read as a standalone but may be enjoyed more if you read the Real Trouble and Real Danger first. It is dual POV following Devon Flynn and Kimball Frye as they bicker and fumble their way to their happily ever after.

Exclusive Excerpt:
While waiting for Devon to be discharged, Kimball texted Ryder. Birdy had already said her goodbyes and left for the sheriff’s office after extracting a promise from Kimball that he would check in with her later.
Over the last seven months or so, since Ryder and Shay Delacombe had gotten together, Ryder had commuted to the Oakland office on an as-needed basis, so he knew the routine, and he was one of the only people with a key to Kimball’s condo. Leo had one too, but he’d gone to Florida to assist on a nasty remains recovery case.
K: I need a favor
…
…
R: Yes, boss? Your wish is my command.
K: Not even. But. this is serious and I need you to keep it to yourself. Don’t even share with Shay. Confidential, your eyes and ears only.
R: … okay? Of course.
Kimball told Ryder about the latest fire, Devon’s injury, and the rumor that Devon was behind the spate of fires. Quickly he got an enraged response.
R: That is crap, no way Devon would do anything like that.
K: I agree but it has to be looked into. We can’t ignore it, and you my friend are our secret weapon.
R: I like the sound of that. I’m on it.
K: I’m going to be staying with Devon until he can get around on his own.
R: … wait. You’re here on the island?
K: Birdy called me right away. I’m having Scarlett send me what I’ll need to work from here for a while.
There was no response for a minute or so, and Kimball was just getting ready to shove his phone back into his pocket when a new text from Ryder popped up.
R: You and Chief Flynn, I never would’ve guessed it. But… now that I think about it, two hot alpha males—gets me all hot and bothered.
K: There is nothing going on between Flynn and me.
R: Okay, there’s nothing going on. I believe you.
K: There isn’t. I offered to stay with him because he is supposed to stay off his injured leg.
After racing up to Piedras.
R: Mm hmm. Keep telling yourself that. I’m going to ship you so hard. Devon is waaaay hotter and smarter than those barely out of short pants boys you take home.
There was no way he was winning an argument with Ryder via text, so Kimball chose to ignore him.
