Exclusive Excerpt from Tide To You
My gaze lands on Hudson, and I frown. He’s sitting in the shade, lost in his reading, a glass of water on the table. Has something happened? Upset him, perhaps?
“Hudson, aren’t you joining in? Is everything okay?”
He looks up and closes his book. I can’t see his eyes through the dark lenses of his Ray-Ban sunglasses. “I’m good, Yannick. I’m down for the next round of volleyball, but I’m taking a break from the boys.” He pauses. “And their noise.” I get the feeling he’s leaving something out.
“They are enjoying themselves.” I change the subject. “The playrooms are getting busy. If you’d like to book one, I suggest you don’t leave it too long.”
“I’m going to give them a miss today. I’m having a me day.” He removes his sunglasses, then shrugs. “I get to relax and read a book for the first time in I can’t remember how long. And the view is beautiful.” His eyes travel over my body like a caress. My cheeks heat.
“Let me know if I can do anything to help you.” God, I want this man.
“If I did that, boy, we’d both be in trouble.” Hudson’s voice is low, rich, growly. But a hint of humour sparkles in his eyes as he calls me boy. The tingle of electricity is back, and that’s just from hearing his voice. What would I do if he ever touched me? I take a step closer. I can’t stop myself, even if I wanted to.
“I’d do anything to make you happy, sir.”
“That’s an extremely dangerous thing to say, Yannick. I may take you seriously.”
I swallow hard when he sits up, swings his legs off the bed, and stands. He’s closer than I expected, his clean sweat and a hint of his soap filling my nostrils. The rest is all man—hot, heavy, and hungry. He draws a deep breath in, and his eyes dilate. Is he smelling me too? Can he sense my desire for him?
“You know where to find me, Yannick.” He bends his head and whispers, “If you’re brave enough, boy.”
He picks up his book and walks away through the garden, heading towards the rooms.
“Fuck.”
