Max opened the door and walked out, heading toward the double glass doors where the rest of his team waited beyond. He was passing by a group of cubicles where two agents sat and stopped when one called his name. “Hey, Prince. Hold up.” “My team is waiting for me, Jamison. What’s up?” Max asked stopping beside the desk of an agent he really didn’t like. “I just heard your new team member is Leopold Reeves, right?” He smirked in a not so nice way. “Leo, yeah. What about it?” Jamison ducked his head, looking side to side and pretending to lower his voice even though the agent seated beside him, Tom Farley, was also smirking as he leaned back in his chair. From the expressions on their faces, clearly the two shared some sort of secret. “How is it working with the son of the Sweetwater Slaughterer?” “What the fuck are you talking about, Jamison?” “Ohh, he didn’t know,” Farley said, leaning forward and slapping Jamison on the bicep with the back of his hand. Both men laughed before they turned to look at him. “You’d better watch your back, Prince. We heard he killed his last partner.” “Prince!” Max turned to find Perez standing twenty feet away, holding the door to the lobby open. Leo and Kindness stood behind him. “Are you coming or what?” “Yeah, sorry!” Max turned back to the two snickering men. “Grow the fuck up,” he said in disgust, turning and jogging toward Perez. “Don’t say we didn’t warn you, man!” Jamison called after him. Max flipped him the bird without turning. He knew they’d both be peering around the partition. Those assholes were instigators, both trying their best to stir shit up whenever they could. They were such children. Max was curious by nature but he’d never felt for a single second that he had anything to worry about when it came to his new partner. It was just the opposite, in fact. He had a good feeling about Leo.
