Unnecessary Roughness
By Rheland Richmond & Emerson Beckett
The Package Deal Series, Book 3
Jackson Kincaid
When my childhood best friend and I escaped a potentially miserable life in our small southern hometown to attend the University of Georgia, I thought I’d finally be able to live my life the way I’d planned. I’d go to school on a football scholarship and get my degree to become a veterinarian. But when the NFL came calling, how could I say no to millions of dollars? I’d put my plans on hold for a while, along with finding the right man for me.
But life doesn’t always go as we plan.
When Allison was killed in a car accident, I suddenly became the only parent to my ten-year-old godson. How would I play football for the Portland Pirates and be a full-time single dad?
I’d have to adjust. And thanks to my friends, and the badass team doctor, we’d heal and make it through. Did I mention he’s my best friend and that I can’t stop thinking dirty thoughts about him naked?
Unfortunately, keeping our relationship a secret is not the only obstacle we’ll face.
Simon Taylor
My training as a Navy doctor prepared me to assess injuries on the fly and deal with all kinds of situations. Emotions and feelings had no place in medicine during an emergency. Determine the problem and fix it. Or find someone who could. As my new friends liked to call me, I was the badass team doctor.
I wasn’t prepared for the passionate feelings I didn’t know I had for Jackson to surface while helping him deal with losing his friend and taking custody of her son. But feelings and emotions were what I had for both of them.
But life has a way of unfolding the way it’s supposed to. I’m a believer in things happen for a reason. It doesn’t matter that our relationship might be forbidden. I want to get sweaty and naked with him.
Jackson and I deserve to be together no matter how rough things get. I just had to convince him of that.
Unnecessary Roughness is the friends-to-lovers story in the third book of the Package Deal Series.

Chapter 25- First Game of the Season
Grabbing my bag from the laundry room, I made sure I had all the necessities for the locker room. Jockstrap, underwear for after the game, tight t-shirt showing off my muscles to make Simon horny, yep, it was all in there.
I zipped it up as the man of my dreams entered the kitchen from the garage. I’d given Simon the third bay for his car.
“Hey, ready for the game?” Simon inquired with a big grin on his face.
I smirked at him. “Of course I am. Are you?” I made a show of flexing my muscles and acting like a bodybuilder. I was almost giddy. And indescribably happy for the first time in my life.
Simon raised his brows. “Well, that’s new.” He pointed to my new poses. “I don’t know how I feel about other men tackling you to the ground. That should be my job.”
“It is your job,” I said. “Except your field is the bed, or the shower, or the floor, or the kit….” Simon slapped a palm over my mouth to stop my list.
“Do not, I repeat, do NOT make me hard before the game,” he chastised, then removed his hand to peck kiss me.
“Well, that was unsatisfying,” I whined.
“You’ll get yours later. Right now, your energy needs to be focused on the game,” he said, looking around. “Where’s Parker?”
“Outside with Allie for her workout,” I smiled.
Simon returned it. “I should have known. Is Cooper taking him to the game?”
“Nope, he had something he couldn’t get out of. But Aidan is going to take him. I told him we’d get him after the game.”
Simon’s expression changed from focused team physician to the sappy love of my life I knew him to be. Hardass team doctor? Pfft. Please.
“Why are you smiling?” I knew why, but I just wanted to hear him say it. And he knew I knew.
“It’s game night,” he lied.
“That’s why you went from Drill Seargent to marshmallow in two seconds flat?”
“Yep. That’s why. And I’ll show you a drill sergeant after the game. And turn you into a pile of creamy goodness,” he whispered in my ear.
“Now, who’s making who hard? I can’t play like this, Simon.” I huffed, then took his hand and placed it on my crotch, where he handled me through my jeans.
“Well, you’ll have to wait. You can’t afford to expend any extra energy right now. You have a quarterback to terrorize tonight and an end zone to protect. If you win tonight, you’ll sink my battleship when we get home. If we lose, I’ll sink yours, nice and slow, with your hands tied to the bedpost.”
I stared at him.“You totally fail at making me want to win, Simon. Either way, in that scenario, I’m a winner.” I flicked my tongue across his lips.
Simon slapped me on the ass and walked toward the patio door. “Get your shit together, soldier,” he barked over his shoulder, “it’s almost time to go to war.”
Damn, he could ramp me up like nothing else. He was even better than Coach. But I wouldn’t lick Coach’s asshole like I would Simon’s. I shuddered animatedly at the thought and shook it off.

About the Authors
Rheland Richmond:
For as long as she can remember Rheland’s had her nose stuck in a book, getting lost in the world of someone else’s creation (She still does). Her love for writing came from her love for reading. She could never have one without the other.
Writing has always been a hobby and a cathartic experience for her. There are many stories lost to the never to be completed or published pile but needed to be written at the time.
She’s just a girl that loved stories so much she wrote hers.
Rheland would love to hear from her readers and learn more about Y’all. So if you get a chance… please get in touch.

Emerson Beckett:
Who is Emerson Beckett? That’s a good question.
I’m a retired educator who loves all things romance and an avid reader and consumer of well-written M/M romance books.
My journey to becoming an author started with an idea I had one night while I sat reading on my sofa. That idea became an email that ultimately resulted in me editing for three wonderfully talented M/M romance authors. The third referral led to an opportunity to co-write with one of the most genuine and kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. (She’s my co-author for Quarterback Keeper.)
I’m a wife and a mother of three beautiful adults, one of which is trans and responsible for my love of this genre. All three have since left us with an empty nest that is now full of pets.
Emerson would love to hear from her readers. So if you get a chance… Get in touch.
