Chapter 1: Sal Henrik

“I don’t care who he is. He needs to get out of my room. Now.” I crossed my arms over my chest as I fumed at the weird turn my night had taken.

“You’re welcome to sleep on the couch, but I’m not leaving,” Haverford said in his deep, rumbling voice that turned my stomach into lava butterflies, even though I was pissed off at him. How dare he be so ridiculously sexy when he was clearly a bed-thieving bastard?

My rage hit new heights. “I’m not sleeping on the couch in my own damn apartment. You can go sleep out there because you sure as shit aren’t staying in here with me.”

“I signed a sublet lease to stay in this room through the next two months, which is a legally binding contract. And since I wrote it myself, there aren’t any loopholes.” He pinned me under his cool gaze, making me swallow hard. “It gives me the right to occupy this space until the end of the lease agreement since I’ve already paid for it in full up front.”

I looked at Calixto with a scowl. “Then give this guy a refund and make him get out.”

“That’s not how tenancy laws work. And I would know because it’s one of the areas of specialty of my law firm,” Haverford said. It made me want to punch the man in his stupidly perfect face. “I have a legal right to stay here and sleep in this bed until the end of my sublet term. You can’t evict me, either, since I’m a lawful tenant.”

“So, what? We’re just supposed to spend the next two months sharing this bed?” I scoffed at the ridiculous idea. “Because I’m not doing that.”

“Then enjoy sleeping on the couch.” His dismissive tone took my anger to new heights. “Now, if you would kindly see yourself out, I have a mediation conference in the morning and would like to get a good night of sleep.”

I glared at him. “I’m not sleeping on the damn couch!”

“You can sleep on the floor for all I care. But I’m going back to sleep, right here, in this bed.” He leaned over and shut off the bedside lamp, then lay down, as if that somehow ended the argument.

“Sorry again. Night, guys,” Calixto said before he shuffled back to his room.

I blinked in the darkness as I tried to understand what had just happened. “You’re seriously going back to sleep?”

“Yes.”

I couldn’t stand his audacity. “But you’re naked.”

“So are you. What’s your point?”

His answer made me dig my heels in even more. “You’re not sleeping naked in my bed.”

“You’re right. I’m sleeping naked in my bed,” Haverford said in a haughty voice. “If nudity bothers you, feel free to put on underwear. But I’m not getting out of this bed until my alarm goes off.”

“Are you telling me it doesn’t bother you that I’m naked?”

“The only thing I care about is that you are silent and stay on your side of the bed.”

If that’s how he wanted to play the game, then he’d have to live with me being naked. “This isn’t over.” I threw myself onto the bed and turned away from him. Once I got some sleep, I’d come up with a surefire way to evict him.
