Shot in the Dark by Riley Long

If you win the bet, we’ll let you disappear. If you lose, you’ll be trapped on stage forever.

Charlie I’m definitely straight, but when rock god Eli Steele offers me the opportunity of a lifetime in exchange for being his fake husband for a year, I can’t say no. That’s how I find myself sharing a bed – and more than a few kisses – with the lead singer of Blood Money. All I have to do is stay focused on my work and pretend to be in love with him. Easy, right?

Eli I took a stupid fucking bet and now I have to convince Charlie to fall for me without using mind control. He’s straight, but the bigger problem is that he’s human and I’m not. Once he finds out I’m really a vampire, will he be able to look past my fangs and see what’s in my heart?

Charlie The thought that I offered him something the band didn’t warmed me. I almost blurted it out, but when I looked up from the water teasing around my ankles, I caught Eli staring at the moon. “Eli?” “It’s so beautiful. Prettier than the sun, don’t you think?” I shrugged. “I guess so.” When he looked at me, his eyes were shining. “Yes, well. We’ll never know, will we?” Before I had a chance to ask what the hell he was talking about, he took a few steps to close the gap between us and kissed me fiercely. The kiss was so intense that I nearly dropped my shoes as I wrapped my arms around him, clutching his back. Eli advanced on me, and I took a few stumbling steps backwards until I hit soft, dry sand, and he lowered me to the ground. Breaking the kiss briefly, Eli took my shoes from me and discarded our things a few feet away before coming back to kiss me again. As we made out, he climbed on top of me, straddling my hips. His erection was evident through his jeans, and mine probably was, too. We were covered in sand, but I didn’t care. I wanted more of him. It hit me all at once that I was ready. I wanted to go further with Eli, wanted to take him inside of me. I wanted to tell him, but every time I started to speak, it came out as a broken moan. I took one of his hands, which he’d pressed to my chest, and guided it to my hip, hoping he’d get the hint. Eli groaned and pulled away. He glanced over his shoulder. “Shit.” He scrambled off of me. “Everything okay?” I tried to catch my breath, my mind reeling to figure out what I’d done wrong. “The sunrise. We need to go.”
