“I thought I was, too.”
“You can’t just be gay for me.”
“This isn’t some gay for you thing. This is an I never thought about it before thing. I’m attracted to you.”
“Like this?” My breath caught in my chest. How could anyone want me? Halfway in between genders and not good looking either way. I could see why he wanted me before, but now? It didn’t make any sense in my head.
“More so like this.”
“How?” I didn’t want to ask, but the words left my lips of their own accord.
“You’re more yourself than I ever saw you. There isn’t a mask. I knew there was something you were holding back then, just not what. This is real. It’s you. And all I’ve ever been attracted to from afar is you. Then you gave me the chance to get to know you, and even as a friend, I was happy getting to be in your life.” He looked away, but the light of the moon illumined the side of his face.
I scooted closer. “I don’t understand how you see me.”
“I wish you did.” He closed his eyes and hesitated.
