Release Blitz & Excerpt:
All Fired Up
By Jenn Burke

Ashes & Dust, Book 1

Once bitten. Twice burned. Forever bonded.

Don’t miss this riveting and romantic spin-off series from Jenn Burke, author of Not Dead Yet.

Paranormals are dying. All over the city, with no explanation and only one thing in common: their magic is missing.

Vampire and private investigator Evan Fournier isn’t supposed to be taking on paranormal cases, but when the murderer hits close to home, he agrees to look into it. The last thing he expects is to become a target himself—and then to become irrevocably bonded to the man who just tried to kill him.

With his memory gone and his soul bonded to a stranger, former firefighter Colin Zhang wants to be anywhere else. He doesn’t have a damn clue why he just tried to kill Evan, and he didn’t even know about magic until just now. The sooner he can get back to his real life, the better.

But every time either of them tries to leave, pure agony stops them short. Forced to work with Evan or suffer the consequences, Colin must excavate the secrets buried in his missing memories while battling two rising threats: the conspiracy behind the murder, and his mutual attraction to the bond mate he never wanted.

Special Exclusive Excerpt from All Fired Up:

Noise in the dark

The night was quiet, but not in a suspenseful kind of way. It was restful, with the chirps of night insects and the occasional haunting call of a loon. Once or twice I caught the yips of coyotes on the wind, but they were very far away and not a concern. The night was cool but not uncomfortably so, with the aroma of green things and earth all around me. The gentle illumination of the porch light was more than enough for me to read by, and I quickly fell into the story I’d picked up.

I wasn’t sure how long had passed when I heard a rustle in the forest close to my yurt. I’d heard more than one before this, but my nose had identified them as non-threats—mice, a raccoon, and something else that smelled like a rodent but not one I could identify. This rustle was from something much larger. I inhaled but caught only the faint scent of a banked and extinguished campfire. Which was odd enough. There’d been no such scent up till now. But there was a hint of cinnamon to it too.

I stared into the woods, but even my night vision couldn’t pick out anything in the shadows. Was I being paranoid? Maybe the darkness had finally gotten to me. It wasn’t like I spent a lot of time outside after sundown, not with Wes’s blood keeping me safe from the sun. Creature of the night, I wasn’t.

Another rustle.

“Hello?” As soon as I said it, I wanted to smack myself upside the head. If it was a person out there, they clearly didn’t want me to know they were watching, so calling hello was a waste of time. And if it were an animal, it wasn’t like they’d talk back, was it? Unless it was a shifter. And in that case, see scenario A.

As I’d expected, only silence greeted me.

I weighed my options. Option one—I could leap off the deck and race into the woods with my vampire speed and night vision and try to catch whoever was there. The problem with that was I wasn’t entirely sure where they were, or if they were even human—or humanoid. It could be a big ol’ bear trying to figure out if I would make good eating. Option two—lure them in by doing nothing. Maybe they’d come back, give me more clues, and I could avoid the whole vampiric pursuit. I wasn’t all that athletic, and racing through the woods was as likely to result in me with a self-inflicted concussion as catching someone.

“I’m going to head inside,” I said quietly to the listening dark. “I’ll be out here again tomorrow night, so if you want to talk then, let me know. I don’t bite without permission.”

About the Author:

Jenn Burke has loved out-of-this-world romance since she was a preteen reading about heroes and heroines kicking butt and falling in love. Now that she’s an author, she couldn’t be happier to bring adventure, romance, and sexy times to her readers.

Jenn is the author of a number of paranormal and science fiction romance titles, including the critically acclaimed Chaos Station science fiction romance series (authored with Kelly Jensen) and her newest series, Not Dead Yet, both from Carina Press.

She’s been called a pocket-sized and puntastic Canadian on social media, and she’ll happily own that label. Jenn lives just outside of Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband and two kids, plus two dogs named after video game characters…because her geekiness knows no bounds.
